On March 20th Join the Atlas Obscura on a tour of Nautilus in Turin, Italy. With the tag line "Antique Scientific Instruments and Old Oddities"
Nautilus feels more like an 18th
century wunderkammer than a modern-day shop. According to writer David Sederis "The greatest shop in the world is in Turin, Italy. It’s called Nautilus"
Established in 2005, Nautilus tries to be a modern “wunderkammer”, where antique science and natural history meet, inspiring “wonder”. We mainly specialise in antique scientific and medical instruments, but our interest extends to unusual or rare technologies and natural history.
On Obscura Day the shop owners will give a guided tour of the shop, telling histories about main pieces of the collections and some facts about where and how we found them: the mummy arm, the 2-headed calfs, the anatomical specimen, the electroshock machine, ect.
DETAILS AND DIRECTIONS
There will be two tours at 3pm and 4pm each accomodating 20 people. The tours will last about an hour each, and cover the history and origin of the shops most interesting items.
The shop is in Turin (Italy), in via Bellezia 15, ih the historical centre of the city. Nearby and worth visiting are the Anatomical Museum and the recently opened, "Museo Lombroso", of Criminal Anthropology
